Tim Welch recently discussed an incident had with Petr Yan and his team at UFC 299.

In the main event of the show, UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O'Malley retained the gold against Marlon "Chito" Vera via unanimous decision. Earlier on in the main card, Petr Yan bested Song Yadong, also by unanimous decision.

Yan and "Sugar" famously went to war back at UFC 280, where O'Malley came out on top via split decision.

'He Wouldn't Shake My Hand' - Tim Welch On Petr Yan

During a recent interview with James Lynch, Tim Welch revealed he went to speak with Yan backstage at UFC 299. His intentions had been pleasant enough, as he simply wanted to shake hands with "No Mercy" following his win over Song.

Instead, he was greeted with a frosty reception from Yan and co., who threw some trash talk in Welch's direction.

"After, backstage, I went to him, and his team were waiting back there, backstage, definitely trying to start some stuff," Welch said. "And I just went to shake Petr's hand because I have a lot of respect for Petr, I mean, he's an animal, been a fan of his for a long time, and he wouldn't shake my hand. And he started, him and his team started talking s**t. So then I walked away, and they kept talking s**t, so then I was like, 'I'm not just gonna let these guys sit here and punk me out.' So I started talking s**t back, and his coach was like, 'Coach versus coach,' and I laughed at him, and that p***ed him off."

Welch then addressed some recent footage of him seemingly dissing Yan. He explained that it had come in retaliation to how Yan and his team were treating him.

"That clip came up of me saying 'You didn't even win that last fight,'" Welch said. "People just said that I said that out of nowhere but I didn't. I was trying to be respectful and shake his hand, and he's the one who kind of- they were back there looking for a little dust-up."
