Michael ‘Venom’ Page calls out Irish star Ian Garry for next fight after spectacular UFC debut
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Michael ‘Venom’ Page is an exciting new entry in UFC’s welterweight division. Page proved he’s UFC caliber in his octagon debut at UFC 299 at Kaseya Center in Miami. And just like that, the fighter of Bellator MMA fame has now found himself in the top 15 of the welterweight rankings. As such, he has a particular name in mind next – welterweight peer Ian Machado Garry.

In his debut outing, Michael ‘Venom’ Page eased past Kevin Holland in Miami with a unanimous decision win . At 22-2 MMA, 17-2 BMMA, and now 1-0 UFC, Michael Page wants to improve upon his stats even more, for which he has undefeated prospect Ian Garry in mind. Meanwhile, Garry is fresh off his win over Geoff Neal .

Speaking to The MMA Hour‘s Ariel Helwani , Page said –

Just looking at the rankings, I think one that makes the most sense would be Ian [Machado] Garry...Considering he thought I wasn’t going to get past Kevin. ... There was an interview he did, I’m not sure on what, they asked him his views on me, he was like, ‘Who is he fighting? Oh he’s not going to beat Kevin. No way he gets past Kevin.’ Very dismissive. Which is fine. Michael ‘Venom’ Page to The MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani (for MMAFighting on SBN)

Garry is streaking at 14-0 MMA, and 7-0 UFC following his recent fight over Neal, and is an interesting option to match. In the “Weighing In” podcast #392, ex-UFC star  Josh Thomson  and referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy floated names like Geoff NealStephen Thompson, and others as Page’s debut opponents. Days later he has now debuted as #13 in welterweight rankings.

Now, the undefeated Irishman Garry (#7) seems like a good option as to who Page should face in the welterweight division after his debut win. Concurrently, for Page, it is a matter of pride.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page thinks he can beat Ian Garry, despite acknowledging his strength

It is safe to say Michael ‘Venom’ Page made a good first impression at UFC 299. Now, he is accordingly ready to build upon his stats and become a reckoning force within the 170lbs class. Often considered the consensus knockout artist throughout his career run, Page has said UFC 299 wasn’t the best performance to the fullest of his potential. And he is out to change that.

Consequently, he has chosen Ian Machado Garry as his next target. Garry is often in troubled waters due to his self-promotional tendencies and flagrant verbalism while trash-talking. His relationship with his wife has also been under deep scrutiny from peers and fans as well. However, Page doesn’t want Garry out of a notion of enmity or revenge. Here’s what he said about Garry to Ariel Helwani (for MMAFighting on SBN):

He’s a great fighter, Again, no need to be negative towards anybody. He’s sparked a lot of emotional reactions from a lot of people, from his personality, his performances, he’s doing good. But I definitely believe I can beat him, so why not? Michael ‘Venom’ Page to The MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani (for MMAFighting on SBN)

Lately, Ian Garry has accumulated a lot of animosity among the fight bubble who stand against his outspoken behavior. For Page, though, it is strictly business as he is out to prove himself. He wants to meet #7 ranking Garry, as he quippingly considers the karmic numeric as his lucky number. He also wants a UK affair against the opponent, similar to the all-English affair he earlier prescribed against Leon Edwards.
