UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington has reacted as expected to Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz's upcoming rematch in the boxing ring.

Masvidal initially called time on his combat sports career last April following a decision defeat at the hands of Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. The result marked a fourth straight loss for "Gamebred," who hasn't had his hand raised since 2019.

But the Miami native's retirement was short-lived, with the former BMF titleholder seeking another challenge at the turn of the new year. That's ultimately come in the form of a boxing showdown with an ex-UFC opponent.

Masvidal and Diaz will share the ring on June 1 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. By the sounds of things, another of the former's UFC rivals won't be watching with interest...

Covington On Masvidal/Diaz 2: 'Two Complete Washouts Of The UFC...'

During a recent appearance on Submission Radio, Covington was asked for his thoughts on Masvidal's impending return to action in the form of a boxing match opposite Diaz.

"Chaos" and "Gamebred's" history is well-documented. After Covington got the better of Masvidal inside the Octagon at UFC 272 in March 2022, the former interim champ found himself getting sucker-punched from behind by his ex-friend and teammate outside a Miami restaurant.

Covington has since shown disdain for Masvidal at every opportunity, and that trend continued in regard to his upcoming return against Diaz in the squared circle.

"I mean, just two complete washouts of the UFC that are 40 years old and should be in retirement homes," Covington said. "They're sloppy, old f*cking dudes. They can't perform in the UFC no more at this high, elite level like me, at the top of the division.

"They both got 10 seconds of fame in the UFC, living off these fights from 10 years ago," Covington continued. "Let them go do their thing. If the UFC's signing off on it, I'm all about whatever the UFC signs off on. I (couldn't) care less about Jorge."

Like Masvidal, Covington himself is also coming off a defeat. He was handedly beaten on the scorecards by UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards last December. With it marking his third failed bid for the undisputed throne, many have suggested that the writing is on the wall for the outspoken American's title ambitions.

While he goes back and forth with Ian Garry over a potential showdown this summer, "Gamebred" will be gearing up for the fight he's got locked into the calendar, and will likely take no notice of his longtime rival's thoughts about it.
