Alex Pereira Said To Have Clause Promising UFC 301 Spot If He Beats Jamahal Hill Without Sustaining Damage
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

April and May could prove to be a very busy time for UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira.

At UFC 300, "Poatan" will make his first defense of the 205-pound gold opposite former champion Jamahal Hill. Last year, "Sweet Dreams" relinquished the title after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon. Pereira later won the vacant belt by way of a second-round TKO victory over Jiří Procházka back at UFC 295.

Following UFC 300, the promotion will return to Brazil for UFC 301 in May. Now, it appears that Pereira could potentially be fighting there as well.

'He's Allowed To Fight On That Card' - Thomson Claims Pereira Has Unique Contract Clause

During a recent edition of the WEIGHING IN podcast, former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson revealed some intriguing info on Alex Pereira's UFC 300 deal.

According to "The Punk," if Pereira can get through the April 13 event relatively unscathed, he will be granted the opportunity to fight at UFC 301 on May 4 as well. The May pay-per-view will take place in Pereira's home nation of Brazil.

According to Thomson, having the chance to fight at 301 as well was a part of his contract negotiations to collide with Hill at 300.

"I also heard that if what's-his-name gets out of the Jamahal- the 300, he wants to be on that card, Alex Pereira," Thomson said. "Apparently that was part of his contract negotiation. If he gets the win, and he comes out healthy, that he's allowed to fight on that card. Yeah, that was part of I guess apparently his agreement to fighting on 300."

Needless to say, "Poatan" will not have an easy go of making it to UFC 301.

Jamahal Hill's punching power has put plenty of fighters in dire need of medical care over the years. However, Hill is coming into the context on the back of recovering a ruptured Achilles tendon and Pereira's leg kicks are particularly lethal.
