Alex Pereira Has Clause For Quick Turnaround At UFC 301: 3 Possible Opponents Including Tom Aspinall
Credit: Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Pereira could have himself a very busy upcoming stretch of UFC action.

Pereira, the reigning light heavyweight titleholder, is set to defend his belt for the first time opposite Jamahal Hill. That bout is scheduled as the main event at UFC 300 in April.

And while most would take time off following a successful title defense, that isn’t the mission for “Poatan.”

It appears as if Pereira has a clause that would allow for a quick turnaround and fight at UFC 301. The card is set for some three weeks following UFC 300 on April 13 from Las Vegas. UFC 301 is set for May 4 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the main event of UFC 301, Alexandre Pantoja defends his flyweight belt vs. Steve Erceg. However, adding Pereira could bump that to co-main event status.

Should Pereira be successful vs. Hill, here are three possible opponents for the top 205-pounder in the world.

Who will Alex Pereira’s next next fight be against?

Assuming he is healthy and capable, Pereira has a couple of options to defend his title. First, he could face top challenger Magomed Ankalaev, who finished Johnny Walker earlier this year. There is someone like Sean Strickland, who could bump up from middleweight.

And finally, how about Pereira makes a move? Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall seems itching to fight.

  • The Russian: Ankalaev secured one of the biggest wins of his career when he flattened Johnny Walker in January. The win moved his record to 18-1-1 overall including 10 knockout wins.
  • Tarzan: Strickland is always outspoken and would make for an easy quick-promote opponent. He is also a former champion and has experience competing at 205 pounds.
  • The “interim” champ: As he awaits Jon Jones or Stipe Miocic, Aspinall needs to stay active. Handling the light heavyweight champion would definitely add to his resume.
