D-backs Secure Minor League Deal with 2X Gold Glover
Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Following their win over the Rockies on Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks inked a minor league contract with two-time Gold Glove-winning 2nd baseman Kolten Wong.

This acquisition serves as a precautionary move in light of Geraldo Perdomo’s current stint on the IL, ensuring the Diamondbacks have additional depth in the middle infield if needed. The team’s current rotation up the middle includes Jace Peterson, Ketel Marte, and rookie Blaze Alexander.

Wong is set to begin his tenure with the Reno Aces down in Triple-A.

A former first-round pick of the Cardinals, Wong spent eight noteworthy seasons in St. Louis, achieving a .261 batting average and a .717 OPS. The 11-year veteran’s career then took him to the Brewers for a couple of seasons, followed by a stint with the Mariners, and most recently, he concluded the second half of 2023 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Overall last season, Wong struggled heavily at the plate, posting a .183 batting average across 224 at-bats.

Stay tuned for further updates.
