Brewers place RHP J.B. Bukauskas (lat strain) on 15-day IL
Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander J.B. Bukauskas on the 15-day injured list due to a right lat strain - one of several moves the team made on Sunday.

Bukauskas (0-0, 1.50 ERA) pitched Saturday, earning the hold in Milwaukee's 11-5 victory over the host Baltimore Orioles. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter in two-thirds of an inning.

In his second season with Milwaukee, Bukauskas allowed one run on three hits in six relief appearances.

Bukauskas, 27, has a 2-2 record with a 5.04 ERA, 11 walks and 27 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2021), Seattle Mariners (2023) and Brewers.

In a corresponding move, the Brewers selected the contract of left-hander Jared Koenig from Triple-A Nashville.

Koenig, 30, has 10 games (five starts) of major league experience, all with the Oakland Athletics in 2022. He posted a 1-3 mark with a 5.72 ERA, 15 walks and 22 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings.

Milwaukee recalled outfielder Joey Wiemer from Nashville and optioned shortstop Andruw Monasterio to the Triple-A affiliate. Monasterio, 26, was 0-for-7 in four games this season.

The Brewers transferred outfielder Garrett Mitchell from the 10- to 60-day injured list. He fractured his left index finger while taking batting practice the weekend before Opening Day.

Projected to be the team's starting center fielder and leadoff batter this season, Mitchell, 25, had said he targeted a return in early May. General manager Matt Arnold recently said he hoped Mitchell could be back by June 1.
